Iraq Reconstruction Projects
Perini is extensively involved in the reconstruction of Iraq under IDIQ and contingency contracts with the Iraq Project and Contracting Office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Perini’s first project in post war Iraq was to repair buildings at an existing army base, being used by U.S. military personnel. The project consisted of removing life safety hazards and clearing away rubble, repairing 26 barracks and administrative buildings, and installing 13 new backup generator sets. The work included demolition of damaged walls, showers and latrines; replacement of windows, doors, frames and hardware; refurbishment of floors and staircases; and installation of air conditioning units, new electrical distribution, wiring and lighting.
The majority of our projects in Iraq have been for the rehabilitation of electrical infrastructure, including high voltage transmission line repairs; low, medium and high voltage electrical substation repairs; turbine generator rehabilitations; and new power generation facilities. More on energy and power. Lajes Field Hospital Renovation
This fast-track estimate/design/build project involved the complete renovation of a hospital and a two-story office facility in the remote Azores Islands. All the project materials were bought and shipped from the United States on a regular schedule that required precise planning, scheduling, and management of local labor forces. ICITAP Police Academy
Perini renovated an existing, run-down military academy into a civilian police academy consisting of 28 one and two-story buildings on an 11-acre campus: dormitories, classroom building, latrine/shower building, dining hall/kitchen, recreational/sports building, and pistol range. The project involved installation of all new infrastructure, including water, sewer, and primary and secondary power with backup generators. Hurricane Georges Repairs
Following the widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Georges in Puerto Rico, the Perini/Jones joint venture was tasked with performing on-going restoration and repair at the U.S. Naval Station Roosevelt Roads. The work included restoration of power supply and distribution networks, the removal of trees and debris, the repair and replacement of damaged roofs, the removal and replacement of windows, and other miscellaneous interior repairs at the U.S. Navy Hospital and Base housing. Perini also completed extensive structural and utility repairs at a 1,300-foot fuel pier, requiring underwater pile work and floating rafts and platforms. Typhoon Paka Repairs
Under the Multi Trade VIII contract with the U.S. Navy Pacific Division, Perini performed highly critical emergency repairs to facilities and infrastructure damaged by Super Typhoon Paka. This consisted of repairs to over 100 housing roofs and restoration of power to over 60 homes in less than three weeks. Al Adan Hospital
Perini Corporation was the managing partner of a joint venture formed to construct a 530-bed general hospital and hospital staff facility in Kuwait. In addition to the hospital building, this project included construction of outpatient and dental clinic facilities; nurse's dormitories; a central nurses' dining and recreation building; central mechanical building; mosque; sewage treatment plant; and water treatment, storage, and pumping facilities. Airfield Restorations
The Perini/Jones joint venture has performed two projects to upgrade the airfields at Aviano Air Base in support of the 16th Air Force, 31st Fighter Wing. The improvements include runway restoration, runway demolition, arrestor gear replacement, taxiway repairs, electrical repairs, and installation of flush mounted and elevated runway lights. Sewage Treatment Plant
Perini/Jones managed the construction of a new sewage treatment plant to enable Navy vessels to unload wastewater at Marathi Pier in Souda Bay, Crete. Five pump stations were constructed along with approximately 9,000 feet of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) pipe force main. An 800,000-gallon, four-bay concrete holding tank was built with all its associated aeration piping. A concrete blower building, which included five blower units with their associated piping, extensive electrical and telecommunication work, and a back-up generator, was also constructed. RAS EL Soda Pumping Station and Sporting Station
U.S. AID provided funding for the construction of two pumping stations for the Alexandria General Organization for Sanitary Drainage (AGOSD). At the Ras El Soda Pumping Station, Perini self performed the installation of a 36-meter o.d. circular concrete caisson, 13 meters in depth, constructed in soft clay. At the Sporting Station site, Perini self performed the installation of a large pump station approximately 25 meters below sea level, constructed in a steel sheet pile cofferdam, requiring extensive dewatering. Caracas Diplomatic Office Building
Using local trades and subcontractors, Perini supervised the construction of a four-story diplomatic office building, situated on a steeply sloped 27-acre site overlooking the city of Caracas. The building contains approximately 96,000 square feet of office space, diplomatic reception areas, and an ambassador's penthouse. The 400-foot-long reinforced concrete structure is clad in red marble. |
